Award of Distinction

selected by the co-founders of Art Kudos

Matthew Dercole
ceramic, glaze, paint, polyurethane, waxed linen
20" x 14" x 9"
Kudos from the co-founders: "The quirkiness of this sculpture made us smile. Here, the artist uses fantastical creatures to very skillfully express human emotions and frailty. The awkward creature appears insecure and inadequate, nearly tripping over his own feet and attempting to disguise himself as someone or something he is not. The little one gazes at him intently with hands clutched over the chest in an expression of deep heart-felt emotion. Is his companion a trusted confidant, a swooning sweetheart, or an alter ego? The piece is a clever and poignant portrayal that invokes reflection."
