We all brush our teeth, many of us with just this same grim determination, but few artists bother to record the act. The composition is startling, the physiognomy off-putting, the mottled surface jarring, yet it all comes together brilliantly to transmit a jolt of real-life energy. The infusion of bright blue marks (or is that turquoise?) across the picture plane is particularly adept because it weaves the composition together so well." |
